Well, I just found out a dear friend has been reading this. I want to give a shout out to her. I spent two years in a Diakonia class with here, and had no idea that she even knew about my blog. However, she has responded to my last post on Adult Bible study. My son is welcome to attend this adult Bible study. I know we cannot make this week, as I am in California this week. However, I plan on trying to bring my son the following study. I hope he will come and participate and see a side of me he has not. Bible study really is something I enjoy and want him to as well, as he is in that questioning stage of life. Or should I say, that know it all stage of life as a teen! I love him very much. Sometimes I don’t think he knows, but I do love him more than he will know.

I don’t know if your son views this blog but I sure hope so. Every time he wonders if, he can just look at this post and be reminded that yes, you do love him.
With respect to bible study – is a 15 year old confirmed, voting member an adult? Not for me to say but I do suggest you might think of it in the light of your own comments a couple of posts ago. For everything there is a season.
A fifteen year old might be an adult in your faith but still can’t drive. An 18 year old may have been driving for two years already and now can vote but still can’t drink. A 21 year old can drink but their auto insurance is still high.

Of course it works in the other direction too. A 43 year old is no longer invited to a church’s young adult group.
The point is, there is no shame in building associations along particular parameters. A bible study group of teens and folks older could be enlightening as each group listens to the other’s point of view. However it is also simply human nature that some topics may be stifled in a mixed group.
Neither form is right or wrong, good or bad. It’s just different.

More the point, this particular Church, being new to bible study groups, may need to further define what they consider an adult, for bible study. It really is not the fact he was excluded as much as it can be confusing for the confirmed youth, who are defined as adults.
